Trade Tales - Erin Gates on finding your voice [Rebroadcast] - 43 min

Erin Gates has a special talent for identifying untapped potential: She started her own firm geared toward young professionals in Boston in 2007, finding great success among an underserved clientele; she was also an early design blogger, part of a shift that would transform the design industry (and send her own career skyrocketing). In this episode, the Wellesley, Massachusetts–based designer explains how she stayed authentic amid pressure to bend, how she finds team members that support her vision, and why she’s so excited about the new hire keeping her firm’s operations in check.

Resilient by Design - Welcome to Season 4 - 19 min

Welcome to Season 4

Wow, I can’t believe we’re on season 4 - it's been 3.5 years and I love that we’re still doing this podcast! Today I’m sharing with you my hopes and dreams for 2023 and hopefully inspire you to reach for your hopes, dreams, and goals.

I really want you to remember one thing: It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to start. As creatives, we tend to hold ourselves back because we want it to be beautiful, but as you’ll learn, it is the message that matters. The rest will come with time.

Remember that you won’t reach your goals if you’re holding for the right time. Just start. Be it taking baby steps or kicking your behind into gear. So take on 2023 with purpose and intention and start taking action.

Designer’s Oasis - What Waiting Tables Taught Me about Running a Business - 32 min

The experience a client receives and great service is so important. Lucky for host Kate Bendewald, that comes pretty naturally based on her experience working in fine dining. The goal at the end of a meal is to leave the customer with a full belly, and a dopamine hit from laughter and being with people they love. Kate’s goal was to make it feel like an effortless and seamless experience, which is the same goal she carries into her interior design business!

Today, Kate shares how her experiences working in a few fine dining establishments helped shape her to be a better manager of projects and clients and to help her understand what high end clients want.

In this episode, Kate answer questions like…

  1. How your past experiences have/can shape your interior design business

  2. How you can use these experiences to create your unique selling proposition

  3. What Kate learned from waiting tables that helped me craft my business

Here’s a glance at this episode…
