about Interior DesignHer

We’re not marketers or business gurus or interior design coaches or MBAs. In fact, up until late 2021, our boutique residential design firm - Robb and Company - was a one-woman operation.

Like most self-employed designers, our principal designer, Nicole Robb is a born designer…and a self-taught business owner. For years, Robb and Company grew based exclusively on word of mouth.

And then…COVID happened…and the world turned upside down.

Like everyone else on planet Earth, COVID was a major inflection point in our lives, both personally & professionally.

  • In 2021, Nicole decided that she was no longer wanted to operate Robb and Company as a solopreneur.

  • Consequently, Nicole hired her recently unemployed husband - Douglas Robb to help with the business-side of the biz. In addition to having just sold his two personal fitness businesses, Doug actually enjoys business operations, marketing & building community-focused businesses. Yin meet yang.

  • Soon after, Nicole & Doug hatched the idea for Interior DesignHer as a place to share the transformation of Robb and Company from a solo design firm into something bigger & better.

  • Some time in 2022, the Interior DesignHer concept had grown from a simple blog where N&D could share their experiences into the dream for a “real world” business education hub for interior designers around the world.

If you’re an interior designer who wants to build an even more amazing interior design business, we would love to have you join us here at Interior DesignHer. We’ve got big plans for Interior DesignHer and for our design firm - Robb and Company. How about you?

Nicole Robb

Nicole’s passion for great design is what initially inspired her to start her own design business Robb and Company.

Having the opportunity to transform ordinary houses into extraordinary homes was & is a career dream come true. The fact that she’s good at it is an extra little bonus.

Nicole sees Interior DesignHer as the community & education platform she wishes she had when she was starting out…a place where interior designers can connect & learn from other each other & from a carefully curated group of interior design business experts.

On a personal level, as a mom and a small-business owner, Nicole knows that your home needs to be more than beautiful. It needs to work for you and your family’s lifestyle…plus come in under budget.

Douglas Robb

Douglas envisions Interior Designher as a community hub where designers can finally learn, share, rent or buy the business skills they should have learned in school.

In addition to all sorts of free education resources - from people who know what they’re talking about - Doug is collaborating with a few of our “experts” to create a series of no-cost / low-cost business tools to help designers improve their business quickly, dependably & at a ridiculously great price.

  • Business expertise delivered at no/low cost.

  • Business tools that enable a small team to operate like their corporate cousins.

  • A well-planned & diligent social media strategy that builds brand effectively & at a low cost.

Business owners & principal designers will be able to keep their focus on high-value tasks, while virtual & real-life employees can perform lower-value tasks efficiently & with ownership. Ever evolving software & global communications have truly leveled the playing field. The only thing holding back the growth of our interior design firms is us.

Douglas sees Interior DesignHer as that online space where interior designers feel welcomed, encouraged, motivated & empowered to take their the businesses to a higher level.
