Convo By Design - Perspectives on Design and the Thought Process that Informs World Class Interior Design with Sherry Hayslip - 54 min

In today’s post, host Josh Cooperman is going back to the WestEdge Design Fair in Dallas, Texas with designer Sherry Hayslip.

Josh have been working with the WestEdge Design Fair since I think 2015. He has been producing the panels and conversations since 2016 and as is the case every year it gets more challenging as he tries to bring us designers we know, creators we don’t and topics that force us to think about the business and how it affects us and our impact on the business of design.

Josh speaks with creators who come from all walks of life and creative thought. Today, Josh chats with Sherry Hayslip. For Josh, Sherry is an incredibly thoughtful yet under-appreciated designer. She is an international talent, she is award-winning, she has Fortune 500 and celebrity clients, she works on a wide array of projects and styles and there is no shortage of press-coverage but in my opinion, she is in the conversation for one of America’s greatest talents. Hear her approach and you recognize that she is a special creative.

Business Building By Design - Top Reasons to Hire an Interior Designer and What Should I Know Before I do! - 27 min

Have you asked the question, "Should I hire an Interior designer?" And, “what should I look for?” In this episode, podcast host Emily Janzen McGrath chats over coffee with her assistant Heather and they discuss all the reasons you should hire an interior designer and what to look for.

Reasons why you should hire an interior designer:

  1. Experience – they have experience in their field

  2. Connections – they have connections with contractors and other designers

  3. Sources – they have resources that not everyone has access to

  4. Money savings – in the long run they will save you time and money

What to look for in a designer:

  1. A good listener – a designer should be a good listener; listening to your needs & wants. If they don’t, move on.

  2. They’re a good communicator – they should be good at relaying or explaining process & procedures.

  3. Respected – ask around and make sure they are well respected in your community and do they come well recommended.

  4. They can create a style you love – be sure to look at some of their previous work and that you like their decorating style. The last thing you want is to use your hard earned money to end up with something that you hate or regret doing.

Business of Design - Get Intentional with Sierra Collins - 35 min

Sierra Collins recently returned from High Point Market where she met with the very first Business of Design BOSS Group and introduced them to one of her favorite tools for achieving more in less time with fewer distractions. This tool allows individuals to merge their personal and professional lives into one, in order to live every day with greater intentionality. In this episode, Sierra Collins shares the 5 areas that you must have clarity around, both personally and professionally, in order to be more intentional in your goal setting, and in your life.

In this episode we learn:

  1. Core Values - If someone were to ask you right now what your core values are, you should not hesitate. Core values are a set of fundamental beliefs that inform how you conduct your life, both personally and professionally.

  2. Priorities - Take time to reflect on your priorities in life then let those priorities guide your decision-making.

  3. Purpose - If you do not have a purpose statement for your life, it's time to write one. This is what will get you up in the morning!

  4. Where You Are - I use a tool called the Wheel of Life to identify my current level of satisfaction in each area of life, ensuring I am not neglecting things that will help me achieve a more well-balanced life.

  5. Where You Want To Be - This is your vision for the future, both personally and professionally. Do you have a clear vision statement?

If you feel that it’s time to take control of your business, take a listen to this episode.
